A lot changes about your appearance as you age and wrinkles are not uncommon. This is a natural part of ageing, but it can leave you feeling self conscious and older than you are, which is why wrinkle treatments are so popular. In this blog, we have taken a look at some of the best treatments for wrinkles, including PlasmaPen.

What are Wrinkles and Why Do They Appear?

Wrinkles are creases, lines or folds that develop on the skin, and they appear as a natural part of the ageing process. They are most commonly found on the face, as well as other areas of the body that are exposed to the sun, such as the neck, hands, and arms. However, it’s wrinkles on the face and neck that most people feel self conscious about, as these tend to be the most noticeable. Though wrinkles are a normal part of ageing, they can also be influenced by other factors and they appear for a number of reasons.

  • Ageing – As you age, your skin naturally loses some of its elasticity. The production of essential proteins like collagen and elastin decreases, leading to a loss of skin elasticity and firmness in the skin, making it easier for wrinkles to appear. The skin also becomes thinner and more prone to wrinkling.

  • Facial Expressions – Repeated muscle movements and facial expressions – such as smiling, frowning, squinting and laughing – can cause wrinkles to develop over time. Unfortunately, it’s impossible to avoid moving your face, so creases in the face worsen as time goes on. These wrinkles, known as expression lines, are particularly common in areas of the face that are subject to frequent movement, such as the forehead and around the eyes.

  • Environmental Factors – Other environmental factors, such as pollution and harsh weather conditions, can contribute to skin damage and the formation of wrinkles. Exposure to pollutants and toxins in the environment can accelerate skin ageing and reduce its ability to repair and regenerate. Without the ability to repair, wrinkles will begin to set in.

  • Sun Exposure – Ultraviolet radiation, which is what you are subject to when you are out in the sunshine, is a significant contributor to premature skin ageing of skin and the development of wrinkles. Prolonged and unprotected exposure to the sun’s UV rays accelerates the breakdown of collagen and elastin fibres in the skin, resulting in the formation of wrinkles at a much quicker rate than would otherwise happen.

  • Genetics – One factor that’s hard to combat is genetics. You might be genetically predisposed to developing wrinkles at an earlier age or more prominently than others. Genetic factors can influence the rate of collagen and elastin breakdown, as well as the natural moisture content of the skin

  • Smoking – Like UV rays, smoking damages the collagen and elastin fibres in the skin, leading to premature ageing and the formation of wrinkles. It also constricts blood vessels, reducing blood flow to the skin and depriving it of essential nutrients and oxygen. This makes wrinkles appear sooner, as the skin is not equipped enough to stay smooth.

What Wrinkle Treatments Are Available?

Though wrinkles are a natural part of the ageing process, there are things that you can do to reduce the chances of them appearing, or at least slow things down. Things such as using sun protection, avoiding excessive sun exposure, not smoking and maintaining a healthy lifestyle all make a difference, as does adopting a good skincare routine and moisturising regularly. Luckily, there are a range of wrinkle treatments available, all of which are aimed at reducing how visible fine lines and creases are on the face.

  • Fibroblast and PlasmaPen Skin Tightening – One of the most effective wrinkle treatments available is fibroblast treatment, which is carried out using a PlasmaPen By tightening the skin, PlasmaPen can reduce the appearance of wrinkles, and the results are apparent almost instantly.

  • Skin Creams and Gels – Over the counter creams and gels containing retinol, hyaluronic acid and antioxidants can help improve the appearance of wrinkles. However, these do require regular use, and the results are unlikely to be noticeable straight away, if at all.

  • Chemical Peels – Chemical peels involve applying a specialist chemical solution to the skin to remove the outer layer, promoting the growth of new, smoother and younger looking skin. Chemical peels can improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and uneven skin tone.

  • Laser Resurfacing – Using specialist lasers, laser resurfacing involves removing the outer layer of skin, stimulating collagen production and promoting new skin growth. This technique can help reduce the appearance of wrinkles and improve skin tone and texture.

  • Botox Injections – Botox injections are a popular and effective treatment for fine lines and wrinkles, especially those which are caused by repetitive facial muscle movements. Botox temporarily relaxes the muscles, reducing the appearance of wrinkles and creating a smoother surface to the skin.

Though there are a range of wrinkle treatments available, it’s hard to deny the appeal of PlasmaPen and fibroblast treatment. Skin tightening is one of the most common uses of a PlasmaPen device, and it leaves skin looking tighter and smoother. Not only does this reduce the appearance of wrinkles, but it creates younger looking skin, and gives skin a much needed rejuvenation boost.

At PlasmaPen, we are passionate about improving the appearance of skin, and this can be done in a number of ways. As well as being a fantastic wrinkle treatment, PlasmaPen can also be used to remove moles, repair sun damage, revise scars and reduce how noticeable acne scarring is. It’s also a treatment option to consider for anyone who is wanting a neck, brow or face lift, or those interested in forehead tightening.
