Plasma Pen Aftercare Instructions

It doesn’t matter if you’re having Plasma Pen treatment for fine lines and wrinkles, acne scarring or sun damage, aftercare is important. You need to know how to care for your skin as it heals, as this will make sure that your skin heals as quickly as possible and you see the best results. In this blog, we have taken a look at the ins and outs of Plasma Pen aftercare.

Why is Plasma Pen Aftercare Important?

A lot of people focus on the treatment side of Plasma Pen, forgetting that aftercare is just as important. Following a Plasma Pen treatment, aftercare ensures optimum results and minimises the potential side effects. It promotes healing – it does this by reducing inflammation and preventing infection – which is a key part of achieving the best skin tightening and rejuvenation results. Aftercare also helps to minimise discomfort and the risk of complications, such as scarring and hyperpigmentation.

It’s important to not underestimate the role of Plasma Pen aftercare, as it not only enhances the immediate results of treatment, but it also helps to ensure that your skin remains healthy and looks its best for as long as possible.

How to Care for Your Skin After Plasma Pen Treatment

Plasma Pen aftercare is by no means complex, but there are a few key things that you should be aware of.

  • By applying the Plasma Pen Silver Colloidal Gel post-treatment twice daily, this will help cool the skin. By also applying the Plasma Pen Advanced Repair Serum, this will provide a protective barrier along with promoting skin healing/moisturizing. Both products should be applied morning and evening until the skin is healed.

  • Avoid Getting the Area Wet – It’s important that you avoid getting the treatment area wet for 48 hours after Plasma Pen treatment This includes not applying any cosmetics or your usual skincare products, and not washing your face. However, its important to keep the area clean. Its best to only dab the area with a gauze cloth using cool, boiled water and gently pat dry.  Getting the skin wet could impact the healing process and irritate the skin.

  • Avoid Wearing Makeup – You should avoid wearing makeup after Plasma Pen treatment, and this means avoiding even the smallest amount to cover any redness. You need to give your skin the chance to heal without being irritated. From day five, you can start to wear minimal makeup. If you do need to cover up, only the Plasma Pen Tinted Aftercare is recommended, as this has been proven to be both safe and effective as it won’t irritate your skin.

  • Stay Hydrated – It’s a good idea to stay hydrated after your Plasma Pen treatment, as this will give your skin the best chance of healing successfully. Staying hydrated helps skin to remain supple, elastic and healthy, which helps with the healing process.

  • Avoid Sun Exposure – You must avoid sun exposure to the treated areas for the first 48 hours following Plasma Pen treatment. After three days, you should start applying sun cream, with SPF 50 or higher, every day to treated areas that could be exposed to the sun. You should do this for four to six weeks after treatment.

  • Bath or Shower Carefully – Though you can bathe or shower as usual whilst your skin heals, you need to do so carefully, as treated areas may be temperature sensitive. You should avoid scented lotions or soaps, exfoliant creams and scrubbing.

  • Use Clean, Cold Compresses – It’s not uncommon for there to be a bit of discomfort after Plasma Pen treatment, but this can be reduced with a clean, cold compress or ice pack. Apply the compress or ice pack to the treated area for five minutes, once an hour. This will help to soothe the skin and reduce any swelling.

  • Leave Healing Areas Alone – You must avoid picking, scratching, or removing scabs after treatment, as this will cause unwanted side effects, such as infections or scarring. Allow any healing areas alone and, if the healing is taking longer than you expected, consider applying a small amount of antibiotic cream.

  • Avoid Swimming, Hot Tubs and Sweating – Until any redness and discomfort has completely gone, you need to avoid swimming, hot tubs, Jacuzzis and sweating after Plasma Pen treatment. It’s also important to avoid exercising, as excessive perspiration can prevent the area from healing properly.

The Plasma Pen Healing and Aftercare Process

You should expect some swelling immediately after treatment, but this is all part of the healing process, especially if you have had treatment close to your eye area. You don’t need to treat the swelling, but a cold compress can help with discomfort. Over the course of the first three days, the swelling will gradually subside, with most people having little to no swelling by day four. It’s not uncommon for the treated area to feel warm, similar to a sunburn, for the first 24 to 48 hours. Again, this is normal and will gradually subside, by using the Plasma Pen Silver Colloidal Gel with Ale Vera, which will help alleviate any discomfort.

For the first two to four days after treatment, the area will likely feel tight. You might experience some itching, which is part of the healing process, but it’s important to avoid scratching as much as possible. By day five, you shouldn’t experience any more pain or discomfort.

By day five, any scabbing will begin to shed, and you should let this happen on its own. This can go on for a number of days, and it’s around the same time that you can begin wearing a small amount of makeup. By day ten, you can resume your usual skincare routine, engage in physical activity and use makeup as normal. Of course, it’s still important to avoid sun exposure during this time.

For two to four weeks after treatment, you should expect the area to remain pink, and it could be slightly tender to touch. As you heal, you will see a continuous improvement in the look, feel, and texture of the treated area. By week eight, the full results of the Plasma Pen treatment will be visible.
